Today was the second day of the first weekend of my 10 weekend yoga teacher training program.
Yesterday evening was the introduction to 61 fellow students, 10 mentors and two teachers.
We got to meet the man behind the idea to open donation based yoga studios and heard from several people who took his teacher training and made yoga into a career.
I am depending on this experience to save me.
They said to TRUST THE PROCESS and KEEP AND OPEN MIND.
This experience is what you make of it.
Today we began the day with a 60 minute yoga class and afterwards I took a walk through central park before heading to the St Marks studio for the first official lecture with Sam.
He lead the crew in a discussion answering the question WHAT IS YOGA?
What is yoga?
Why have I chosen it as the thing that will save me?
Will I be able to do it for the rest of my life?
One of my favorite responses was "yoga is a word. We give it life."
"Yoga is different every time."
"Yoga is a spiritual movement into exploring the breath in different postures."
The lecture slowly turned into a philosophical conversation. Sam talked about having self compassion for the paradox between self acceptance and wanting radical change.
SELF ACCEPTANCE vs RADICAL CHANGE
He explained the importance of our words in our dialogues. Even though we are the ones talking we're not the only ones communicating. The way our students respond to our words says a lot about how well we direct them.
